Launch edition of "European Business"
to hit newsstands on 23rd September 2004
INK publishing group and COMAG are delighted to announce the publication of
the first issue of European Business.
European Business is:
• A monthly publication
• Written about Europeans
• Written by Europeans
• Written for Europeans
• Edited by John Lawless
• Global circulation, initial print run of 108,000
• Distributed by COMAG
European Business will focus on the people behind the companies and institutions
that affect the daily lives of the people of Europe. With a global circulation,
the journal will be available on newsstands, by subscription, on selected airlines
and in hotels. The print run for the first edition is 108,000 copies.
European Business is edited by John Lawless. John was Editor
of Export Times before covering European business for The Economist, in the late
1970s. He then became International Trade Correspondent of The Times in 1982 and
Managing Editor for the launch of Business magazine, which was the UK’s
“Magazine of the Year”, in 1984 – its first year of publication.
He subsequently wrote regularly for both The Sunday Times and Independent on Sunday
whilst running his own business during the 1990s.
European Business is published by the INK group, who produce over a dozen
European magazines and journals, including in-flight magazines for easyJet, MyTravel,
Virgin Express and VLM, as well as the magazine for Summit Hotels and Resorts
and Bradmans Business Travel Guides. Ink also recently launched a magazine for
allergy sufferers, Allergy, which is available on newsstands the UK. INK is based
in London and is opening an office in New York in November 2004.
About the tone of the magazine, John Lawless comments:
“It’s the good, the bad, the mischievous and the devious that
we will be featuring in European Business. We will get to know them intimately.
European Business has no stuffed shirts and no grey suits. It’s about executives
who deserve applause and executives who need to be challenged. We will reveal
their true motivations and expose the big challenges they face. We will be analysing
their methods, their motives and their business-passions – connecting with
our readers, who are affected by their profit-motivations. I believe that European
Business will be the most highly-readable magazine on Euro-Business. Ever!”
Jeffrey O’Rourke, INK Chief Executive, adds:
“This is not the first publication that has focussed on business in
Europe. However, the lack of a competing magazine on the newsstand and the recent
expansion of the EU and its increasing centralisation convince me that there is
a niche to be filled. Those who can’t find stories written from a European
prospective in existing business magazines, yet are aware of the growing economic
power of the Union will find European Business fills the gaps in their knowledge.
We are in this for the long term and are confident that our timing is right.”
For the trade:
• Regular special issues - sure to drive sales - will feature items such
as Top European Entrepreneurs, European Rich List, Top European Businesses and
European Businessman of the Year.
• Substantial promotional activity will support the launch of the magazine,
including a high profile PR campaign by David Burnside Associates and prominent
presence at major European trade fairs.
• Marketing partnerships with CNBC and leading weekly news magazines
• Retailers should display EUROPEAN BUSINESS prominently within the News
and Current Affairs sector, alongside titles such as THE ECONOMIST, NEW STATESMAN
and BUSINESS WEEK
• EUROPEAN BUSINESS is a monthly magazine and goes on sale 23rd September,
